Satsuma anuncia nova Gerente de Fornecedores como parte de seu processo de reestruturação

Abril é o mês de aniversário da Satsuma. Em 2022, completamos 19 anos e estamos muito orgulhosos de toda a nossa trajetória até aqui. Para celebrar, decidimos relembrar um pouco da história da empresa e da nossa CEO e fundadora a partir de uma entrevista publicada originalmente no Linkedin. Confira a seguir.
Primeiras experiências em Localização
Ana Vivacqua se formou em tradução pela PUC-Rio em 1992, mas já atuava como tradutora desde 1991, quando foi contratada por uma empresa de tradução no Rio de Janeiro.
Seu primeiro grande desafio na indústria foi a localização do Microsoft Excel 5.0. Em preparação para o projeto, a filial da empresa onde trabalhava enviou Ana para a sede nos EUA para fazer um treinamento de 2 meses. Ela acabou se integrando à equipe de localizers do escritório americano, onde trabalhou por 7 anos.
“A realização do projeto em si foi muito estressante,” lembra Ana. “Eram milhões de palavras, interface, help e documentação, com atualizações constantes e prazos apertados, mas a equipe era muito bacana e unida em torno do objetivo de entregar um produto de qualidade. Trabalhávamos muito, fins de semana e feriados. Mas a gente se divertia bastante também!”
Depois de um tempo como linguista, Ana Vivacqua teve a oportunidade de atuar como Vendor Manager, o que lhe garantiu uma visão mais holística do setor. Depois, veio a promoção para Gerente de Produção, em que ficou responsável por três departamentos e mais de 10 colaboradores, além do pool de fornecedores da empresa. “Foi uma experiência valiosa para mim, tanto no aspecto pessoal como no profissional.”
Após um período de 10 anos nos EUA, Ana retornou para o Brasil e rapidamente percebeu a demanda latente pela formalização do setor no mercado nacional. Viu então uma oportunidade para empregar seu conhecimento e experiência em empresas de serviços linguísticos na criação do seu próprio negócio: a Satsuma.
Primeiros desafios como empresária
A decisão de abrir a empresa veio naturalmente. Já em 2001, os clientes pediam que oferecesse seus serviços de tradução como pessoa jurídica para formalizar a relação trabalhista. Em vez de encarar a exigência como um obstáculo, como muitos colegas fizeram na época, Ana viu uma oportunidade de crescer com seu próprio negócio e não hesitou. “Hoje, posso dizer que foi a melhor decisão da minha vida.”
Com a abertura da empresa, vieram novos desafios. “Sem dúvida alguma, a burocracia foi o maior!”, revela. “Na época, foram quase 2 meses até que eu pudesse emitir uma nota fiscal e abrir uma conta bancária. O empreendedor precisa de um ambiente que estimule a criatividade e não crie obstáculos. Aqui no Brasil ainda temos um longo caminho a percorrer nesse sentido. Mas já vemos algumas iniciativas aqui e ali para desembaraçar o caminho do empreendedor, principalmente no Rio e em São Paulo. Isso é bom para o empresário, para a força de trabalho e para as esferas governamentais.”
Assim, em 2003, nasceu a Satsuma. Hoje, a empresa oferece soluções linguísticas completas para o mercado latino-americano e conta com uma equipe altamente qualificada para atender a uma cartela de clientes renomados em diversos setores.
A indústria de localização em 20 anos
Desde que fundou a Satsuma, Ana Vivacqua viu a indústria de localização evoluir a passos largos, lado a lado com o desenvolvimento de novas tecnologias, ferramentas e processos. “Na época, um dos desafios que enfrentei foi convencer meus tradutores a adotarem uma ferramenta CAT [tradução assistida por computador]. Hoje, poucos tradutores profissionais ainda acreditam que podem sobreviver sem uma ferramenta dessas.”
A indústria de localização está na vanguarda da tecnologia de ponta e acompanha todos os desenvolvimentos desse setor. “Em Localização, quem dorme no ponto perde a vez”, brinca Ana. Desde o início de sua carreira em tradução, passando pela abertura da Satsuma em 2003 e até a pandemia global que marcou o início da década de 2020, Ana viu surgirem muitas novas tecnologias, ferramentas e processos que mudaram a cara do setor.
“A nuvem veio para ficar, principalmente depois da pandemia, quando todas as empresas tiveram que se adaptar para sobreviver. Até poucos anos atrás, o trending topic era Machine Translation, agora, o tema já evoluiu para englobar não só a MT, mas também Machine Learning e Inteligência Artificial, inclusive Robótica.”

Segundo Ana, o perfil dos clientes não mudou muito nos últimos anos. Apesar disso, há uma pressão para que as empresas se adaptem a um mundo cada vez mais ágil e conectado. “Processos mais ágeis e prazos mais apertados agora fazem parte do dia a dia da nossa empresa. Com machine translation, agora podemos entregar produtos melhores em prazos antes impossíveis. E, com a nuvem, podemos trabalhar de qualquer lugar com uma conexão à internet decente,” conclui.
Próximos desafios da indústria de localização
Depois de dois anos trabalhando de casa e absorvendo o impacto da queda na demanda por serviços linguísticos, sentido em toda a indústria, o desafio nos próximos anos será entregar mais, melhor, mais rápido e mais barato. “Já se percebe uma pressão sobre os preços. Algumas empresas viram sua receita quase desaparecer, e, para continuar existindo (e traduzindo), vão tentar renegociar contratos. Essa pressão vai atingir todos os atores, alguns mais, outros menos. Vai sobreviver quem souber se adaptar aos novos tempos.”
Para saber como a localização vai estar no futuro próximo, é preciso acompanhar as novidades do setor de tecnologia. Segundo Ana Vivacqua, podemos esperar que a inteligência artificial evolua cada vez mais, assim como a machine translation, que será cada vez mais usada até em segmentos que tradicionalmente não a usam. A expectativa é que o setor de localização continue se consolidando e que haja uma concentração maior de MLVs.
“Para as SLVs, isso significa que precisamos acompanhar o ritmo das mudanças na tecnologia ou seremos engolidas pelas maiores. Em termos de tecnologia, vejo que há espaço para integração maior entre os diversos ecossistemas de CAT, MT e QA [avaliação de qualidade].”
